February is the month of love. But it has always made me ponder what is love anyway? A card, candy and flowers doesn’t give every woman in the world butterflies.

So what does? Am I the only one who questioned what is love? That's an obvious no. We all know that Tina Turner asked what's love got to do with it back in the 80's.

It’s safe to say everyone asks that question at some point in their life. Whether it arises from trying to understand your parents and family. While most often it stems from trying to understand sex, relationships and where love fits in.

Is it just me, or can great sex confuse your ability to discern if you love someone, or is it lust. To be completely honest with you it’s harder to determine than you think. At least in my experience. Here’s the top 5 ways to know the difference.

1. Lust is purely physical and sexual.

Whereas love is a much broader term that includes deep connection and care for a person. Though my own personal confusion has come in after I’ve had this deeply passionate sexual experience with this person, thus I thought that feelings of love arose. But as I spent more time with the person. I came to realize I don’t like them that much.

2. The person becomes less attractive as you notice their flaws.

Similar to what I mentioned in number one. You begin to notice, while the sex continues to be good. The things you don’t like seem to stand out like a sore thumb. In fact, it's like you can’t unsee even the smallest problems. On the contrary, when love is involved you are more willing to turn a blind eye to those dirty dishes he left in the skin for the umpteen time.

3. Attraction and lust is a thin line in distinction.

Attraction lives in the brain and can be attached to a desire for emotional connection and excitement. It can also create intrusive thoughts of the person. Which is why it can be confused with lust. But lust on the other hand is hormone driven. Lust is driven by the drive to procreate. To make it easier. When you think of lust, think of being Horney, like hormones. Personally, I rarely feel Horney. Although sex is quite important to me!

4. There are two types of love.

Passionate love is what we think of when we are thinking about relationships. Passionate love is considered attraction and infatuation. It carries a state of deep desire for another person. You will feel emotional and sexual arousal. Contrarily, people who are feeling this type of love. Feel distressed when the relationship isn’t working.

5. Companionate love is the second type of love.

Companionate love comes with feelings of intimacy, affection, and commitment to another person. It is slower to develop and can be found in friendships and long-term romantic partners. It also involves brain chemicals like oxytocin which is associated with pair-bonding like that between mother and child.

Conclusion

As I did research on the subject. I realized why I may have confused attraction with lust. There have been times that I was a little lusty and thought I was just really into the person. When rather immediately after sex, they were getting on my nerves.

Honestly this type of introspection takes commitment and by the time you think about it. You may have already slept together. Oops!
